And he doesn’t just absorb the material - he has applied it to his businesses over the years. One of his best friends (Michael Sheargold) has a stunning quote "the power of an idea is in its implementation". Rob truly is an implementer. He is very action-oriented ("ready, fire, aim" some would say) person and fiercely committed to anything he does. In 1993 (after a number of sales & marketing roles) he started presenting seminars which is where he discovered accountants and his passion for the "Products of the Mind" industry (aka intellectual property). Since then he has immersed himself in assisting the Accounting profession. He has extensively researched how accountants run their businesses in 5 countries. He has developed or co-developed products for the profession – primarily software and training programs. He has been heavily involved in 3 businesses that provide services to accounting firms and he even spent 9 months in an accounting firm to see how it worked – or didn’t! He has personally turned around a service-based business from a $340K loss to a $2.5m profit in 15 months (doubling revenues at the same time) and has helped hundreds of accounting firms grow and develop their businesses. He sees the accounting profession as the primary "trusted advisor" to the business community and has a personal mission to help accountants be much more proactive with their clients. Since 1995 he has been involved in his own "Mastermind" group – where he meets monthly with other successful people and is accountable to them for his actions. His 2 Mastermind buddies are his external business coaches and he currently has a further 2 coaches – a golf swing coach and a golf conditioning coach – with whom he also works. In addition to the accounting profession, Rob has 5 major passions in life:
Because of the lifestyle opportunities and family-friendly environment Rob and his family choose to live in sunny Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. |
